Functional Fungi- The Things you never dared to ask about Medicinal Mushrooms.

The history, and current applications of Medicinal Mushrooms is a vast topic. The latest encyclopaedic work contains more than 1,500 macrofungi (fungi which are visible by naked eyes) with known medicinal potentials. It contains their traditional and modern applications, the historical sources about their usage and their isolated main active compounds. It is almost 1300 pages long. Unfortunately for most of you, it was written in Chinese (same as most of the monumental works about the topic). Lucky enough, I am one of the few who can read both the Classical Chinese sources and contemporary Chinese texts too.

The Iceman and His Mushrooms

In 1991 at the Ötzal Alps (Austrian-Italian border area) a frozen, mummified body of a man was found. He lived about 3300 BCE, but the thick ice conserved his body (and possessions) amazingly. He was named after the location as Ötzi.

This workshop starts with two - nowadays well-known - mushrooms which were found amongst other things with Ötzi.
